Don’t Demand–Just Ask.
It’s interesting how life unfolds when we maintain our spirituality even in the midst of not getting what we want. I’m sure we’ve all been in situations where we could feel ourselves getting agitated, impatient, and restless when we suspected we weren’t going to get what we wanted.
And that’s just what the “enemy” wants- for us to get spun-out and acting out of childish ego. In that state, we can be absolutely sure we won’t get what we want.
Let’s Go Shopping
Just the other day I was at a major electronics retailer on a mission to get a flash drive for my laptop. I gotta tell ya, I was pretty excited when I found an 8GB thumb drive for $6.99. That seemed like a pretty good deal to me. But as I looked a little deeper, I noticed that they had a 16GB that was marked down from $29.99 to $9.99!! Sweet!! Double the storage for an extra three bucks- I’m in!!
But as fate would have it, they were sold out. Hmmm, bummer. A helpful associate made a valiant effort to find me one in the stockroom, but his search came up empty. Hey, at least he tried.
An Attitude of Gratitude
Just before I left the store, I had the spiritual prompting to extend gratitude and share my good experience with the manager. Even though they didn’t have what I wanted, I was moved by the employee’s effort to help me. As I explained my shopping experience to the manager, he quickly asked me what it was that I wanted to get. Without hesitation, he gave me the next model up for the same price as the least expensive one. WOW!!
I really believe that it was my spiritual demeanor of gratitude that opened the door to this being an even more positive experience. I had a choice: I could have been indignant over the idea that they wouldn’t order enough of a certain product and therefore run out, or I could have been appreciative and grateful of how they treated me in the situation. I had no demands, much less an expectation.
Stretch, Grow, Become!
Life often plays out in much the same way. When we surrender to things we have no control over, and focus purely on our attitude, it creates space for God to work in our lives. Please read that again- it’s critical to living a life of peace, joy, and abundance.
Starting today, try to catch yourself when you feel agitated about not getting what you want. Where’s your focus? I can assure you it’s on your fear. Flip that script and place the focus on your Faith. Make the choice- the conscious choice, to be in gratitude even though it may look like you’re not getting what you want exactly when you want it. Something better may be just a short time away. Remember, breathe and trust……..breathe and trust.
Change isn’t easy. If it was, everyone would be living the dream. Having a coach who takes people from where they are to where they want to be makes all the difference. Call me today to learn more.
